CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2015 VOLUNTEERS OF THE YEAR, THE ALTERNATIVE HIGH SCHOOL!
The Tree House Child and Family Center would not be a success without the help of the special people that volunteer. These are the people who somehow find the time and energy to give to the Tree House because they truly care about children. These are the people the Tree House is blessed to have.
They have truly been amazing Partners! Through all their volunteer hours, they have helped so many Children and Families of Walworth County. We are so blessed to call them our Family. We truly appreciate all your Hard Work and Dedication to help Prevent Child Abuse in Walworth County.
The Alternative High School (AHS) was created in 1990 by the the Walworth County Education Consortium. The school serves 11th and 12th grade students at risk of not graduating from Badger, Big Foot, Willliams Bay, Delavan-Darien, and Elkhorn Area HIgh Schools.
It is the mission of the Alternative High School to provide an environment, which promotes the academic, emotional, social, and vocational growth and development of those students whose needs are not being met by the traditional school setting. Our goal is to have AHS students live as productive, contributing members of society, by successfully completing a program leading to graduation, and a successful post-graduate career in one of four areas; college, vocational, military, or trades-person . We work to accomplish these goals through innovative use of technology, broad-based curricula, diverse teaching strategies, varied authentic assessment of progress and performance, and community involvement. It is this last “tool” that led us to adopt the Tree House in 2014. This symbiotic relationship has nurtured our students, providing them with opportunities for authentic contributions to a cause that touches them. This culminated in the ultimate compliment when the Tree House called the students “family.”
